LinkedIn is one of those social networks that you have but possibly
hardly use. Well, that used to be me, until this year. Tutors and lecturers are
always telling us to get on LinkedIn because there are so many opportunities to network
yourself on there - they’re actually right!

With it being my final year of university and the job hunting pressure starting to build, I decided to see what opportunities are available via LinkedIn. As a matter of fact, it’s really good if you use it correctly! It’s pretty much your online CV that everyone can view.
Make sure you have a profile picture - a professional one that is. Add a
brief summary - sell yourself. Make sure all your work experience is on there
and if you haven’t got any work experience, connect with professionals and
agencies on LinkedIn to see if they can offer you something. Complete everything LinkedIn asks you to -
show off all your skills! The more things you add to your profile, the more
chance you have of other people finding you.
Join relevant groups such as PR Week, CIPR and other PR, communications
and or marketing groups. You’ll find they like to post job opportunities. Start
connecting with recruiters and tell them what you’re looking for. What’s even better is that LinkedIn has its
own ‘Jobs’ section which shows you relevant job opportunities that you may be
interested in.
Write posts to let your connections know that you’re looking for a job,
otherwise they’re not going to know.
Don’t forget to keep updating your profile regularly!

University. Previously worked with consumer and business to business brands, as
well as television PR working with ITV. Currently looking for a full time
position in the PR field.
